Entries for prestigious 33rd Cossack Art Awards open March 3

Artists young and old are encouraged to enter their works into the prestigious Cossack Art Awards.

The Cossack Art Awards is one of the premier arts and cultural events in the Pilbara, and is recognised as a nationally significant art prize.

Entries for the highly anticipated event will open on 3 March and close Sunday 20 April unless the maximum of 300 submissions are reached prior.

This year there are 10 award categories with a total prize pool of $89,000, with categories including Best Overall Artwork, Best Artwork by a Pilbara Artist and the People’s Choice.

Other categories include North West Flora and Fauna, Painting Open Theme, Portraits, Works on Paper, Painting Pilbara Landscape, Painting by Pilbara Indigenous Artist and Emerging Young Artist (16-25 years).

Winners will be announced at the invitation only Gala Awards night which will be held on Friday 18 July.
While a special new event, Art After Dark, will be a ticketed evening event open to the public and offering a preview of the exhibition on 19 July.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott called on artists Australia wide to enter their submissions.

“The Cossack Art Awards stand as one of the foremost arts and cultural events in our region and hold a distinguished position within the broader arts community,” Cr Scott said.

“Each year, we are privileged to receive a diverse array of works from exceptionally talented artists and I would like to encourage both our local artists and those across the country to submit their entries.

“The Cossack Art Awards promise to deliver an extraordinary and eclectic celebration of creativity, and I am keenly looking forward to witnessing all of the remarkable submissions.”
