2024 Pilbara Ports People’s Choice and Children’s Art Award Winners announced
Yvonne Brooks has won the 2024 Cossack Art Awards People’s Choice Award for her stunning work When the Working Day is Done.
The watercolour and ink work depicts Pilbara working dogs, Cruise and Diamond, resting after a hard days work.
In her artist statement, Yvonne describes her love of the rich and warm pindan colours contrast against the cool shades as the sun sets.
Meanwhile, in the Children’s Art Awards, Serafina Amayah Tawse was the overall winner for her piece Maighdean na Tuinne.
The Judges, Artist in Residence Katie Barron, and Dunnart Picture Framing proprietor Donna Wilkinson, were immediately drawn to the work, and said the expression in the face was incredibly powerful and it was exceptional that it had been created by an artist of this age.
The Pilbara Ports People’s Choice Award and the Cossack Children's Arts Awards sponsored Dunnart Picture Framing, Powertech, Three Birds Creative and Paintbox, were announced at the Fortescue Children's Art Day on Sunday 11 August.
Art activities for kids, live entertainment, and many fun festivities were held in celebration of the Pilbara region's artistic talent. The event was held on the final day of the Cossack Art Awards exhibition.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the winning works were of a fantastic quality.
“Our People’s Choice winning piece received 42 votes and is a beautiful work, exploring the contrasting Pilbara colours and showcasing the hardworking dogs of the Pilbara,” Cr Scott said.
“The Children’s art awards continued to have high quality artworks showcasing how strong our growing arts scene is.
“I’m glad to see so many people taking part in the arts and would like to congratulate all of the winners.”
