Cossack Art Awards has proudly brought you another exciting Public Program packed with a range of immersive experiences including development workshops, judges talks and entertainment.

 Resin Art Masterclass | Sunday 18 July | 10am-3pm
 Facilitator: Em Anders
 Location: Wickham Community Hub
 Cost: $65 per person
 Max numbers: 15
 Suitable for beginners this workshop will be guided by accomplished Western Australian artist Em Anders. You will be given guidance and all materials to create a functional cheeseboard using popular resin design techniques. Wanted to try this at   home but wary of the costs and mess? This workshop will be perfect for you!!!
 Please bring an apron or wear old clothes. Your artwork will need to cure overnight. Artworks will be labelled and available for collection from the Red Earth Art Precinct from Tuesday 20 July.

 Exploring the Abstract to Realism Gauge | Sunday 18 July | 1pm-5pm
 Facilitator:
Rob Forlani (Artist in Residence)
 Location: Galbraith Store Building, Cossack WA
 Cost: $80
 Max attendees: 30
 Understand the psychology behind creating anything abstracted from the starting point of realism to painting anywhere on the abstraction/realism ‘gauge’. Produce your own artwork involving various techniques while exploring alternative mixed   media methods transferring your passion and attitude onto the canvas. Participates will be provided two 60 x 60 canvases which they will create their own masterpieces throughout the workshop and take home.
 


 

 Blackout Poetry Workshop | Saturday 24 July | 10:00am-12pm

 Create beautiful poetry prose and a visual artwork with guidance from local poet and artisan, Maria Mori. Using the blackout poetry technique and written texts, you will learn poetry skills alongside erasure and  illustration to create a small artwork   with your poem centrestage. This is an interesting historical artform which inspires creativity and contemplation to create new stories from existing written words.

 Rag Bag Weaving Masterclass | Sunday 25 July | 10am-3pm

 Remember how previous generations had the mantra of "waste not; want not"?
 Here's your chance to put that idea into creative practice. By using scraps of fabric - like cotton, linen, denim, or polyester - you will weave a versatile little bag that is a handy size for all your essentials or whatever else you decide to use it for. Sue is a local textile artist with a passion for reducing landfill from fashion. Join her to learn about sustainable crafts for a better future. Materials will be provided however if there is something in particular you would like to include feel free to bring along!

 Artistically finding Your Story | Saturday 31 July | 10am-2pm

 Experiment with certain elements that make creative threads or stories entwined into your artwork. Participants will explore colour, shape, found objects, mixed media, symbolism or the ‘Free-Wheeling’ techniques. This workshop  encourages you to think outside the ‘square’ to have your say, to make your message and ultimately to be heard. Participants will be provided two 60 x 60 canvases which they will create their own masterpieces throughout the workshop and take home.

 Creative Writing Workshop | Sunday 1 August | 10am-12:30pm
 Facilitator: Christie Sistrunk

 What feelings does the Cossack Art Awards exhibition invoke in you? Channel your thoughts and create stories beyond the artwork to create a written piece or performance. Led by accomplished Australian actress and director Christie Sistrunk, this  Creative Writing Workshop will inspire thoughtful creative writing through art. Participants will select one work in the Cossack Art Award Exhibition to respond to as spoken word or a dramatic monologue.
Christie is currently employed as Black Swan State Theatre Company’s Creative Learning Manager and this workshop is presented with support from Black Swan State Theatre Company.

 Black and White Workshop | Sunday 1 August | 1pm-3pm 
 Facilitator: Barngyi Cheedy Sambo
 Location: Galbraith Store Building, Cossack WA
 Cost: $45
 Max attendees: 15
 Come and learn how to mix black and white acrylics to create a beautiful canvas. Suitable for beginners, this workshop will explore how to mix 2 colours and then apply them using creative pattern techniques.    Start with a small pattern and watch it grow with inspiration taken from a small object or from nature. Learn and share your ideas with an Yindjibarndi Artist in a friendly open environment with like-minded people.

 Make a Felted Ball Garland | Monday 2 August | 10am-1pm
 Facilitator:
Rose Barton
 Location: Galbraith Store Building, Cossack WA

 Learn the skill of manipulating wool into felt balls by using a wet felting technique. You will learn the skills to create felted balls and create a colourful garland. This workshop will be led by practicing local artist Rose Barton, who holds a degree in fine art and has extensive experience working in the visual art industry as a coordinator, educator and curator. You will need to bring two old bath towels, scissors, a clean 2L ice cream plastic container or similar plus comfortable clothing that could get wet!

From blank canvas to marine masterpiece learn how to create an acrylic painting step by step with local artist Claudia Kraus. Claudia is a Western Australian marine wildlife artist, who’s paintings pay homage to the beauty and wonder of the marine world. She attributes her lifelong love affair with the ocean to her 40 years spent living near the sea, exploring its diverse inhabitants and beautiful reef structures. Claudia hopes that through her art, she can share her love for the ocean and her passion for marine conservation.

Can this comedian create cottage crafts with skill?
Create a keepsake box using decoupage techniques, layering newsprint, tissue paper and delightful designs under the questionable tutelage of a 30 year old comedian. All materials are supplied. You may wish to bring along some keepsakes and share your story as we create such as treasured coloured tissue paper or newspapers. Please bring a box larger than 30cm x 30cm to transport your creation home.

Join us in the Tool Shed to build your own 3D wooden Australian animal. These wooden construction kits can be built alone by older children and smaller children can enlist help from their carer. Give your creature some character and take it home to personalise.
