Entries for the 2014 Cossack Art Awards opened this week and artists across Australia are being encouraged to enter the region’s premier art prize.
Presented by the Shire of Roebourne and principal partner Rio Tinto the awards have grown in size and stature over the years to become the nation’s richest regional art award attracting entries from the very best talent across the Pilbara and Australia.
Shire of Roebourne President Peter Long said the awards always delivered a high standard of artwork.
“Every year, we continue to grow these awards and continue to attract a high caliber of participation representing the very best talent across the Pilbara and Australia,” Cr Long said.
“It’s always fantastic to see such strong input from our local arts community, which has been hugely influential in the growth of the awards over the years and continues to inspire local artists and talent. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we get this year.”
Rio Tinto Iron Ore Chief Executive Andrew Harding said he was proud that Rio Tinto could continue to support arts in the region.
“Rio Tinto is proud to have supported the Cossack Art Award since its inception 22 years ago, and as Principal Partner since 2002,” Mr Harding said.
“The Cossack Art Award is not only a major event on the Pilbara arts programme, it is becoming more widely known throughout Australia. It highlights many remarkable works of local, state and national artists, as well as showcasing the historic and beautiful town of Cossack.”
Entry submissions are open to 16 June and artwork will be exhibited in the historic Bond Store, Post and Telegraph buildings of Cossack from 20 July to 10 August.
