Western Australian Abstract Expressionist Rob Forlani has been selected as the Cossack Art Awards 2021 Artist in Residence.

Sponsored by Rio Tinto, the Artist in Residence program will see Rob relocate to the historic townsite of Cossack for a four-week immersive residency.

During this time, Rob will work from a studio space to develop a body of work inspired by his experience at Cossack and lead abstract painting workshops as part of the 2021 Public Program.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the Cossack Art Awards provide an incredible opportunity for local artists to hone their craft and highlight their excellent works.

“It is fantastic to see the Cossack Art Awards return to a full program of events, workshops and an exhibition of 300 entrants after being restricted during 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions,” Cr Long said.

“The Cossack Art Awards is the highlight of the cultural calendar within the region and the artist-in-residence program is an opportunity for an artist to focus on their creativity and I look forward to seeing what Mr Forlani produces during his time at Cossack.”
Rio Tinto Iron Ore managing director of Port, Rail and Core services Richard Cohen congratulated Rob Forlani on his selection as 2021 Cossack Artist in Residence.

“We are proud to support the aspirations and development of talented artists like Rob and we look forward to continuing to partner with the City of Karratha to deliver arts and cultural initiatives like the iconic Cossack Art Awards across the region.”
The 2021 Cossack Art Award exhibition is open to the public from 18 July to 8 August 2021.
